Loopkicks Injury   [Permalink]

Posted on Aug 16, 2008 - 3:01PM

On July 24th I flew out to the LoopKicks Camp in California. It was my first time attending LoopKicks Camp. We battled, played tricking games, hung out at the beach and had a lot of fun. The main event, trick battle was held on Saturday, July 26th. The battle was between Team Paul Mitchell (Rudy Reynon, Luke Broadlick and I) verses Team Hurricanes (Kyle Mclean, Sammy Vasquez and Daniel Graham) verses Team LoopKicks (Sesshoumaru, Jeremy Marinas and Anis Cheurfa). Due to Steve Terada’s injury at US Open we had Luke fill in for him. Luke has some crazy Tricks!!

The battle was the craziest trick battle I’d ever been in. It started off with the wildest tricks ever. Unfortunately things didn’t end well for me! Doing a fairly simple move for me (double leg twist) I landed wrong and injured myself. End results: tibia plateau fracture, torn meniscus and ACL and muscle damage.

After my move, I limped off and was taken to the ER in San Jose. My choices were surgery in CA or fly home with the fractured tibia. I choose flying home and it was the worst experience in my life. Cabin pressure increased the pain enormously.

Once arriving in NY, I went straight to the Stony Brook Hospital to get immediate care. The next day went in for surgery to have an X-Fix (crazy looking rods) attached to the outside of my leg which separated my femur and tibia bones. From there I was transferred to Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan where I had a trauma orthopedic surgeon install a metal plate and hardware in my leg. Three hospitals, two surgeries, tons of pain medication, a total of 10 days in the hospital and I am finally home.

The Doctors instructions are no pressure on my leg for 12 weeks. I’m doing physical therapy every day and am on a CPM (continuous passive motion) machine 4 hours a day.

I will keep you all updated on my status. Thanks for everyone’s comments and concern!

At the US Open I took first place in all three of my divisions, Extreme Weapons, Extreme Forms and Creative Forms. In the NASKA Grands I won Forms. The US Open runs things a little different. The NASKA Grand’s are held during the day so that the ISKA Grands can be held at night. Unfortunately, I didn’t win any ISKA titles this year but I will appear on ESPN2 for Forms, Weapons and the XMA Challenge. Look for me on ESPN2!
