Matthew James Emig, member of the prestigious Paul Mitchell Karate Team was born July 9th, 1987 in Long Island, New York. Emig became hooked to martial arts as a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. On his 5th birthday, his parents signed him up at World Karate Academy. By the age of 10, he was a Black Belt and a national competitor in the North American Sport Karate Association (NASKA). Between the ages of 10 and 18, Emig forged himself into a world-renowned forms and weapons competitor, winning over 100 grand championships and 42 world titles throughout his career.  He made many innovations in the competitive martial arts scene, constantly introducing new approaches for arranging technical and artistic elements with precision, flare and intricacy.

Emig is highly regarded for revolutionizing the use of the Nunchaku in weapons competition, creating an original style that fuses complicated manipulations and acrobatics.  He is also a pioneer in Martial Arts Tricking, a contemporary martial arts sub-culture built around the fusion of Acro-Kicking and gymnastics. Since age 17, Emig has been a highly respected and sought after instructor, teaching over 100 workshops around the world, coaching numerous world champions and producing his own line of instructional DVDs and signature Nunchucks.

One of Matt’s most recent ventures was forming his own sport karate competition and performance team, Team Emig. Which is comprised of 4 top junior competitors on the circuit.  In 2010, Emig moved to LA to pursue his career in stunts and entertainment. Matt’s unique style and natural athleticism have enabled him to cross over into other performance venues where he has been featured in films, television, music videos, commercials, live performances and print. Some of his credits include The Voice, Glee, Dancing with the Stars, The Grammy Awards, Disney’s Kickin’ It and the 2014 remake of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
